“Jim” Lowe (May 7, 1923 – December 12, 2016) was an American singer-songwriter, best known for his 1956 number-one hit song, “Green Door”. He also served as a disc jockey and radio host and personality, and was considered an expert on the popular music of the 1940s and 1950s.

 

Novella Nikolayevna Matveyeva (7 October 1934 – 4 September 2016) was a Russian bard, poet, writer, screenwriter, dramatist, and literary scientist. Her first collection of poetry was publishhed in 1961, the same year she was admitted to the Union of Soviet Writers. From the end of the 1950s on Matveyeva composed songs to her poetry and performed them, accompanying herself on a seven-string guitar.

 

Hubert Giraud (3 March 1920 – 16 January 2016) was a French composer and lyricist. In 1941, he was recruited by Ray Ventura to play the guitar during Ventura’s big-band tour of South America. Six years later, he joined Jacques Hélian’s orchestra in scoring a series of post-war romantic comedy films, including Georges Combert’s 1951 feature, Musique en tête. His song “Dors, mon amour”, performed by André Claveau, won the Eurovision Song Contest 1958.

Oleg Karavaichuk (December 28, 1927 – June 13, 2016) was a Soviet and Russian composer, author of music for many films and theater performances. Since 1953 he wrote music for films, although he claims that he began in movie industry because it was the only work, which was not prohibited by the KGB.

 

Kōji Wada (January 29, 1974 – April 3, 2016) was a Japanese rock singer. He was best known for performing theme songs for several installments of the Digimon anime television series, including his recording debut in 1999 with his first and most famous single, “Butter-Fly”, the theme song of the anime Digimon Adventure.

 

Nelson Pinedo (10 February 1928 – 27 October 2016) was a singer from Barranquilla, Colombia. In 1954, Pinedo began a five-year career with the Sonora Matancera, a Cuban ensemble which at the time had widespread fame in Latin America. He incorporated various Colombian songs (porros, cumbias, and maples) into the band’s repertoire.

“Bobby” Wellins (24 January 1936 – 27 October 2016) was a Scottish tenor saxophonist best known for his collaboration with Stan Tracey on the British jazz album Jazz Suite Inspired by Dylan Thomas’s “Under Milk Wood” (1965).

Paul Demers (March 9, 1956 – October 29, 2016) was a Canadian singer-songwriter. He was best known for writing the song “Notre place”, which came to be recognized as an anthem of the Franco-Ontarian community.

Pantelis Pantelidis (23 November 1983 – 18 February 2016) was a Greek singer, songwriter and lyricist. He died on February 18, 2016 in a car accident. He was a self-taught musician who became known from some YouTube videos. Soon he passed to discography and released four albums with great commercial success. He collaborated with Greek artists such as Vasilis Karras, Despina Vandi and others.

 

Jimmie Van Zant (born Jimmie Kelsay;[1] 1956 – April 7, 2016) was an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He was the illegitimate son of E. C. Van Zant who was the uncle of musicians Donnie, Johnny, and Ronnie Van Zant. After the plane crash that killed many Lynyrd Skynyrd members, Jimmie Van Zant then took up a career playing Southern rock music, and performed at festivals and Harley Davidson shows

Gail Zeiler (April 27, 1950 – September 1, 2016), known professionally as Kacey Jones, was an American singer-songwriter, producer and humorist. After co-writing the Mickey Gilley hit “I’m the One Mama Warned You About” (credited as Gayle Zeiler), she found success as a performer through the band Ethel & The Shameless Hussies, with whom she released her first album.

Eddy Wally (12 July 1932 – 6 February 2016), was a Belgian singer from Zelzate, East Flanders, and the once self-proclaimed “Voice of Europe”. As a crooner and showman, Eddy Wally has toured worldwide, from China, to Australia, all of Europe and the United States, and even 24 tour dates in 1979 within the USSR.

 

Ken Delo (December 8, 1938 – February 8, 2016) was an American singer best known as a member of television’s The Lawrence Welk Show. The comedy team of Delo & Daly was very popular in Australia throughout the 1960s with their television variety show and numerous concert appearances.
