Three years ago, Montreal band Suuns (Ben Shemie, Liam O’Neill, Max Henry and Joseph Yarmush) and musician Radwan Ghazi Moumneh that goes by the name Jerusalem In My Heart hooked up together and jammed on music that would bring them out of their “natural territory”, creating a unique sound that neither of them had explored on its own path. Pleased by the result, the five musicians decided to go in studio and hit the record button. The 7-song and 35 minutes-long album is an intense musical trip that explores the experimental side of music (2amoutu l7tirakan) combined with energic tribal beats that fill all available space in a room (Metal). A total invading experience! Depending on the listener’s state of mind, the music produced by the combination of Suuns and Jerusalem In My Heart can be enjoyable or invasive. It is so intense that one must pick the right moment to dive into the trip. But once the body and mind opened to live the experience, it is quite an experience! There are a lot of layers to listen to. As a whole, it’s sometimes almost like mantras. The song Self could have continued for another 10 minutes if they didn’t fade it out. There are also tracks of screaming guitars in the background that make it a fascinating canvas. Suuns electronic beats can be heard later, on In Touch, a piece of music that sounds like the unlikely meeting of The Residents and Midnight Express soundtrack. This is an album to discover. This is an album to experience. This is an album to live. Opened mind required.
