Don’t be mistaken. Django Django isn’t a gypsy cover band. Based in London, they are a cool indie pop rock band that has an obvious melodic talent. The quartet just released their second album, “Born Under Saturn”. Right from the start, Giant is a dreamy but catchy song, kind of halfway between Garbage and Mazzy Star. Yeah, cool blend indeed! Django Django captured the indie pop buzz that bands like Temples or Hot Chip carry. These bands have within their music heavy 60s psyche rock influence. Vincent Neff’s singing and harmonies really refer to the Beach Boys catalogue (Snake and Tumble), with a modern twist. It’s cool, it’s groovy, it’s light and enjoyable. But Django Django’s music isn’t just popcorn and candy. There’s a wide variety of arrangements (piano on Pause Repeat) that make the album’s sound rich and varied. From in 2009, David Maclean (drummer and producer), Vincent Neff (singer and guitarist), Jimmy Dixon (bassist), and Tommy Grace (synthesizer operator) met at Edinburgh College of Art. MacIean’s brother John used to play with The Beta Band. Their first album, self-titled, made it on the long list for the Mercury Prize in 2012. Music magazines like Rolling Stone, NME and The Guardian ranked it high in their “best of 2012” album. “Django Django” went platinum in France due to three singles, including the hit Default.
