In chronological order… Born in Verdun, Move to Chateauguay then Pierrefonds, Kirkland, Ville St-Laurent, Nuns Island, Downtown When have you started to work in the music business? 1999 as morning show intern on CHOM 977 FM.. the Westmount days with Steve Anthony and Andrew Carter At what age have you started to love music? Must have been like five… Mom liked pop Dad liked Rock. Was a healthy balance of Madonna, The Beatles, R.E.M, CCR, Donna Summers, Dire Straits and Celine Dion When you were 20, what was your dream (in the music world)? To get hired, work in a team environment, support a cause and have fun. Have you ever been a musician? Tell us about your career. Grade 9 & 10. Played brass in the school band. Tuba, Trumpet, Trombone and Snare. I was mega cool. ABOUT THE MUSIC BUSINESS Who did you meet in your musical path that was key to your development / success? Matt Cundill who picked me to help him re-launch CHOM in 2001. Stephen Tapp who allowed me to be part of launching XM Radio in Canada. The 1st home of legendary Montreal station CHOM, early 70s What do you like about your current position? I have carte blanche for Montreal Rocks. I’ve since the beginning been asked to play what I trust to be relevant. The show is about supporting Montreal artists, promoters and producers. We are 5 that work on the show and video’s Marc Alfalo Producer, Kristen Theodore Research and Interviews, Mat Gibeault Director Shows to Go, Felix Bouchard Ass. Camera Which great personal goal have you not achieved yet? I’ve been super blessed. I can honestly say that I’ve done gotten everything I’ve wished for and then some. Vinyl, cassette, CD or digital? Digital for everyday life. Vinyl for at home downtime ON ARTISTS AND MUSIC What are your preferred music genres? Alternative, Punk, Thrash, Electro, Classic Hip Hop, Metal… Was it always the case through your life? My first cassette was the Cocktail soundtrack. My second was Big Hits 89 and my third was Kill ‘Em All… On a desert island you bring those 5 albums (no more!) If I’m gonna be stuck on an island I better have island music. Bob Marley & The Wailers Legend, Toots & the Maytals Funky Kingston, Jimmy Cliff The Harder They Come, Peter Tosh Legalize it, Black Uhuru Red Playlist! Who are the friendliest artist/music celebrity you’ve met? Kirk Hammett, Jared Leto, Marky Ramone, Ice-T, Bob Rock, John Frusciante, Coeur de pirate, The Dears, Stars… I could go on and on, lots of good people out there. Jay met Billy Bob Thornton in 2000, at CHOM’s headquarters Which brilliant artist should have made it big, but didn’t (yet)? Really excited to see who picks up Montreal pop artist IRIS. She’s a star. Also excited to see what the future holds for CTZNSHP. Damn Truth have a new record coming can’t wait to see what happen next for them. Montreal’s Nancy Pants, Holy Data, Nanimal, Heat, Emile and Ogden… ouf… the list goes on. Let’s listen to these bands. Who would you like to meet? What would you tell/ask them?
