ANDREA RAMOLO – Naked and Vulnerable Nicolas Pelletier 2017/03/21 Albums (English), Genres Andrea Ramolo is a singer-songwriter that was one half of Scarlett Jane, a duo with Cindy Doire that had released two interesting albums in 2014 and 2015, deserving nominations at the Canadian Folk Music Awards and touring the country more than once. But Ramolo isn’t only Scarlett Jane. She had released three records under her own name starting with “Thank You for the Ride” back in 2008. Her latest release is called “NUDA”. It’s a collection of very personal songs, like Lonely, where she laments on the absence of her lover. Soft electric guitar, light drumming and hazy keyboards wrap her soft singing, a bit like the Cowboy Junkies do. And maybe this is the signature of Michael Timmins, producer of the album… On other songs, like Edge of Love, Ramolo’s songs are closer to Jenn Grant’s or Katie Moore’s: heartfelt, soft and melancholic. Wild Town is edgier, closer to Whitehorse’s country rock. The 37-year-old Torontonian with Italian roots has often projected a sexy image. This, combined with bluesier songs like Hold Me, shows her in an even more vulnerable angle. Her soft rendition of the classic Caruso is one of the most beautiful moments of this record. photo by @jensquiresphotographer On her website, Ramolo describes her creative process for this new album “NUDA for me is a metamorphosis. It was written during an exceptionally dark time where I was painfully shedding pieces of who I thought I was… as an artist, as a lover, as a woman. I wanted the project to unabashedly expose that process; that battle with ego and identification in an attempt to just be… to reveal all my cuts and bruises in this process of becoming. It’s rare these days to stand in front of people naked, alone, and without filter.” photo by @paolobrillo Andrea Ramolo might be one hit away from a major breakthrough. Often throughout “NUDA”, we can feel that she’s inches away from nailing it. It will come. “NUDA” came out on January 20, 2017.
