YouTube sensation and 18 year-old talent from San Diego Elise Trouw has made a name for herself as an emerging star online with homemade videos that highlight her skills on the drums. In 2015, she made the finals of the Hit Like a Girl drummer contest and followed up with many other videos where the … -born musician shows she can handle pop, rock and even jazz! Each her clips got viewed close to 100K times. Last September, she showed to the world and her followers she could also sing and deliver a lot of charisma through the sound and vision with her beautiful multitracked cover of the jazz standard The Girl From Ipanema (initially by Stan Getz and Astrud Gilberto, from 1964). The young and smiling brunette also announced her debut album, entitled “Unraveling” was to be launched. Trouw doesn’t push it. She doesn’t try to sound too big nor too pop. On Your Way, she uses her drum skills to create offbeat pop that sounds soft but is actually pretty clever on the rhythm section. “Unrevealing” touches different genres of pop music. She Talking sounds a bit more like Lorde, with a pop-funk guitar riff, while X Marks The Spot is a bit closer to indie pop artists of the early 2000, like Young & Sexy or She & Him. Target is a catchy 80s bass-slapping pop song that is synth-heavy. Reminiscence of Level 42 can be felt throughout the song. We’ll have to keep an eye on this talent for sure.
