5: Argentinian musician JUAN CARLO CACERES (age 78) was an accomplished jazz trombonist before he became an expert on the music surrounding the Río de la Plata – styles such as tango, milonga, murga, and candombe.

14: Soul singer PERCY SLEDGE (age 74) lost his battle with cancer. “When a Man Loves a Woman” was a major hit in 1966.

22: Canadian singer LOIS LILIENSTEIN (age 78) of the children music group Sharon, Lois and Bram, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her house in Toronto.

24: SID TEPPER famous for writing more than 40 songs for Elvis Presley, died of natural causes.

28: The Kingmen’s lead singer and bassman JACK ELY (age 71) recorded the famous Louie Louie song in 1963, before the band split.

29: Rapper THE LAST MR BIGG (real name Donald Maurice Pears, early 40s) had been shot twice earlier in his life, which led to the loss of an eye. He passed away in his sleep.

30: R&B legend BEN E. KING (age 76) was made famous with his huge hits “Stand by Me” and “Spanish Harlem”, and was part of The Drifters.

30: French singer PATACHOU (real name Henriette Lesser née Ragon, age 96) held a cabaret in Montmartre where Brel, her friend Brassens, Piaf, Aznavour, Aufray and later Sardou will sing.
