Mohamed Tahar Fergani (9 May 1928 – 7 December 2016) was an Algerian singer, violinist and composer, nicknamed the Nightingale of Constantine. He was born in Constantine. Master of the Malouf music of Constantine. Mohamed Tahar Fergani is one of the few singers to interpret compositions on four octaves.

 

Antonio Membrado (21 March 1935 – 3 December 2016) is a Spanish classical guitarist and composer resident in France since 1959. He was a student of Andrés Segovia and gave many concerts in France and abroad.

 

Lonnie McIntosh (July 18, 1941 – April 21, 2016), better known by his stage name Lonnie Mack, was an American rock, blues and country singer-guitarist. He performed professionally from the mid-1950s into the early 2000s. In the early 1960s, he was a “pioneer” and “ground-breaker” in virtuoso rock guitar soloing whose recordings were pivotal to the emergence of the electric guitar as a lead voice in rock music. For this, it has been said that he launched the era of “modern [rock] guitar”.

 

Gianmaria Testa (17 October 1958 – 30 March 2016) was an Italian singer-songwriter. In the early 1990s, Testa won two consecutive top prizes at the Recanati Festival. He had started in rock, but changed to folk gaining success in France, Portugal, Canada and, of course, Italy, thanks to a dozen of albums.

 

Robert Stigwood (16 April 1934 – 4 January 2016) was an Australian-born British-resident music entrepreneur, film producer and impresario, best known for managing Cream and the Bee Gees, theatrical productions like Hair and Jesus Christ Superstar and film productions including the hugely successful Grease and Saturday Night Fever. Stigwood’s companies expanded into almost every entertainment field.

Over the years, in addition to those already mentioned, the Robert Stigwood Organisation (RSO) promoted artists such as Mick Jagger, Rod Stewart, David Bowie and Rick Davis (a former member of the Bay City Rollers), and managed and developed the careers of acts including Blind Faith and Eric Clapton. On his RSO Records label Stigwood recorded artists including Clapton, Yvonne Elliman and Player, and soundtrack albums for the motion pictures The Empire Strikes Back and Fame (both 1980) in addition to the films produced by his company RSO Films.

 

Keith Emerson (2 November 1944 – 11 March 2016) was an English musician and composer. He became internationally famous for his work with the Nice, which included writing rock arrangements of classical music. After leaving the Nice in 1970, he was a founding member of Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP), one of the early progressive rock supergroups. Emerson, Lake & Palmer were commercially successful through much of the 1970s, becoming one of the best-known progressive rock groups of the era.

 

Greg Lake (10 November 1947 – 7 December 2016) was an English bassist, guitarist, singer, songwriter, and producer who gained prominence as a founding member of the progressive rock bands King Crimson and Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP).

Lake began to play the guitar at the age of 12 and wrote his first song, “Lucky Man”, at the same age. He became a full time musician at 17, playing in several rock bands until Robert Fripp invited him to join King Crimson as their singer and bassist. They found commercial success with In the Court of the Crimson King (1969). Lake left the band in 1970 and achieved significant success in the 1970s and beyond as the singer, guitarist, bassist, and producer of ELP. As a member of ELP, Lake wrote and recorded several popular songs including “Lucky Man” and “From the Beginning”.

 

Maurice “Moe” White (December 19, 1941 – February 4, 2016) was an American singer-songwriter, musician, record producer, arranger and bandleader. He was the founder of the band Earth, Wind & Fire. He served as the band’s main songwriter and record producer, and was co-lead singer along with Philip Bailey. He won seven Grammys, and was nominated for a total of twenty.

 

Michel Delpech (26 January 1946 – 2 January 2016), was a French singer-songwriter and actor. At the peak of his success, he recorded “Wight Is Wight” in tribute to the Isle of Wight Festival, a famous rock festival on the Isle of Wight that became his best known song. It sold over one million copies in Europe, and was awarded gold disc status. ‘Pour Un Flirt’ was a second smash hit. It charted in the French-speaking countries around the globe as well in the Netherlands, and a version in German brought him charts success in West Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

 

Julia Gomelskaya was a Ukrainian composer of contemporary classical music. In 1996 she received the MMus Degree in Composition with distinction validated from City University of London. She held a PhD in Music Art and composed symphonic, ballet, chamber and vocal music.
