Mohammad Heydari (January 1937 – August 23, 2016) was a Persian santur player and songwriter. Heydari taught at the Persian National Music Conservatory in Tehran from 1961 until 1978, shortly before the revolution and his departure from Persia. Heydari also was the leader of Navazandegaan Ensemble and performed several programs on Tehran Radio and TV. Juan Gabriel was a Mexican singer and songwriter. He was known for his flamboyant style, which broke barriers within the Latin music market. Having sold over 100 million copies worldwide, Juan Gabriel is among Latin America’s best-selling singer-songwriters. His nineteenth studio album, Recuerdos, Vol. II, holds the distinction of being the best-selling album of all time in Mexico, with over eight million copies sold. Mei Baojiu (29 March 1934 – 25 April 2016) was a contemporary Peking opera artist, also a performer of the Dan role type in Peking Opera and Kunqu opera, the leader of Mei Lanfang Peking Opera troupe in Beijing Peking Opera Theatre. Ernestine Anderson (November 11, 1928 – March 10, 2016) was an American jazz and blues singer.[1] In a career spanning more than six decades, she recorded over 30 albums. She was nominated four times for a Grammy Award. Her re-emergence in the mid-1970s (at which time Ray Brown was her manager) came as a result of a sensational appearance at the 1976 Concord Jazz Festival, a string of albums for Concord Records followed. The next 17 years sealed Anderson’s reputation as a top-tier jazz and blues singer. Sharon Jones (May 4, 1956 – November 18, 2016) was an American soul and funk singer. Shirley Bunnie Foy, also known as Bunny Foy (October 13, 1936 – November 24, 2016), was an American jazz singer, percussionist and songwriter. During her career, she worked in the U. S. with notable jazz musicians such as saxophonists Archie Shepp and Johnny Griffin, drummers Art Blakey and Jo Jones, pianist Randy Weston, organist Lou Bennett, and vibraphonist Milton Jackson. Issa Bagayogo (1961 – 10 October 2016) was a Malian musician. He has released four full-length albums all under the record label Six Degrees Records. Bagayogo lends his voice and plays the kamele n’goni (a six-stringed West African instrument similar to a banjo). Bagayogo blends his native Malian traditions with western pop music. Allan Zavod (16 October 1945 – 29 November 2016) was an Australian pianist, composer, jazz musician and occasional conductor whose career was mainly in America. Zavod was a pioneer in a compositional style that combines classical and jazz genres, where musicians from both worlds share the same concert platform equally. He collaborated with some well-known international musicians such as Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, George Benson, Maynard Ferguson, Eric Clapton, Jean-Luc Ponty and Frank Zappa. Ida Levin (1963 – 19 November 2016) was an American concert violinist. Levin taught at the Sander Vegh International Chamber Music Academy in Prague and was a former faculty member of Harvard University, the Colburn School and the European Mozart Academy. Christoph Albrecht (4 January 1930 – 24 September 2016) was a German organist, conductor, composer, musicologist, and music educator. He is the author of several publications on the topics of liturgy and hymnology. He has also written extensively on sacred music from the 16th through the 18th centuries, and has been instrumental in publishing many forgotten works from that period. Alirio Díaz (12 November 1923 – 5 July 2016) was a Venezuelan classical guitarist and composer and one of the most prominent composer-guitarists of his country. A guitar competition named Concurso Internacional de Guitarra Alirio Díaz has been held in his honor in Caracas and other cities in Venezuela. Alirio Díaz performed all over the world combining baroque music with the works of modern Latin American composers, such as Lauro, Sojo and Barrios Mangoré. Josef Anton Riedl (11 June 1929 – 25 March 2016) was a German composer. Starting in 1952 he did pioneering work in the use of concrete and electronic sounds, joining Pierre Schaefer’s Groupe de Recherche Musicale in 1953. Influenced by Carl Orff und Edgar Varèse, he devoted himself as a composer particularly to percussion and Lautgedichte (sound poetry).
