1: Renaissance keyboardist JOHN TOUT died in London.

5: Longtime collaborator of Ronnie James Dio CRAIG GRUBER died of prostate cancer.

6: ERROL BROWN (age 71) used the stage name Hot Chocolate in the 70s when he landed disco hits “You Sexy Thing” and “Every 1’s a Winner”.

 

8: Sweden’s RUTNER GUNNARSSON (age 69) was ABBA’s bass player on all their songs, tours and movies. He stayed out of the spotlight.

14: Blues legend B.B. KING (age 89) died in Las Vegas. The famous bluesman was noticed in 1948 and went to the top of the charts in 1951. He influenced many guitarists.

 

15: R&B and jazz singer ORTHEIA BARNES-KENNERLY (age 70) had a heart attack in the US Virgin Islands, after a concert. She had sung with Motown’s biggest acts, including Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and Gladys Knight.

 

17: Rapper CHINX (real name Lionel Perkins, age 31), was shot and killed in Queens, NY.

 

22: LA bass player LOUIS JOHNSON (age 60) demarked himself with his slapping technique which landed him great gigs with Herb Alpert, Stanley Clarke and George Benson. He was the one playing bass on Michael Jackson’s mega hits Billie Jean and Don’t Stop ‘til you get Enough.

24: Detroit-born jazz trumpet player MARCUS BELGRAVE (age 78) worked with many Motown artists, Ray Charles, The Temptations, Ella Fitzgerald, Charles Mingus. He died of heart failure.
